Workout & fitness instruction with CEO and founder Ann Barnes.

Toe taps are a beginner-friendly exercise that effectively targets your abs and core while improving coordination and stability.

Start by lying flat on your back with your knees bent at a 90-degree angle and your feet lifted off the floor so your shins are parallel to the ground. Place your hands lightly behind your head or at your sides for support, keeping your core engaged. Slowly lower one foot to tap the floor, keeping your other leg bent and lifted. Make sure your lower back stays pressed gently into the mat to protect your spine.

Return that foot to the starting position and repeat with the opposite leg. Move in a controlled, steady rhythm, focusing on using your abdominal muscles rather than swinging your legs. Breathe naturally, exhaling as your foot lowers and inhaling as you lift it back.

Start with 8–12 repetitions per leg, gradually increasing as your strength improves. Toe Taps are a simple, effective way to build a strong, stable core.
